# I got a letter from HMRC about MTD. What do I need to do?

## You received this letter HMRC has identified you as a landlord likely to meet the income threshold for MTD for IT. The letter is an early heads-up to help you prepare ahead of time

MTD will go live in April 2026 and it will apply to all landlords (and sole traders) with an annual income of £50,000 and above. The letter you received is an encouragement to prepare early to ensure a smooth transition to the new tax system.
